Tyler Lustek (piano) and Alex Charland (tenor sax) will present their captivating jazz duo at the Mabel Tainter Spirit Room on Thursday, August 2nd. Lustek & Charland will take you on a sonic journey drawing upon traditional jazz repertoire from the likes of Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea.

Tyler Lustek is a pianist, educator and composer from Eau Claire, WI.Tyler is involved with a variety of musical projects around Eau Claire and the Twin Cities, including his own group the Tyler Lustek Confluence, avant-garde jazz duet Lustek / Granros, Jack Schabert’s Blue Ox jazz groups, and the Chippewa Valley Jazz Orchestra. Moreover, Tyler has shared the stage with world-class musicians including Kenni Holmen, Dean Granros, Sean Carey, Tanya Darby, Natalie Cressman, Sherrie Maricle, Anat Cohen, and Wayne Bergeron. After completing his musical education at UW-Madison (B.M. 2020) and Northern Illinois University (M.M. 2022), Tyler joined the jazz faculty at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in 2023. Tyler also hosts his own private lessons studio and presents music workshops and masterclasses at high schools across the Chippewa Valley.

Alex Charland is a saxophonist, content creator, and software engineer based out of River Falls, Wisconsin. Active in the Twin Cities and Eau Claire jazz scenes, he is comfortable across a variety of genres, from hip-hop to rock and electronic to classical. Since graduating from UW Madison with a degree in jazz studies, he has shared stages with Laura Caviani, Freddie Cole, Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, and the award-winning Roseville High School Jazz Ensemble I as a featured soloist and composer. He has also recorded with Brahmulus, Fringe Character, Ritt Deitz, the Left Field Quartet, and composed, recorded, and produced his solo record All of Me to You.
